Too often, we hear the objection that sustainability is too costly. This is especially the case when decisions about products that will finish the interior of the building are left to the end of the project and suffer the most from value engineering. At ecomedes, we wanted to explore this objection to see where the truth lay.
We engaged four amazing interns from Lehigh University and Notre Dame to dig deep into the Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) in our sustainability catalog and map the data for Global Warming Potential (GWP) against price data. The result is the analysis presented here. Like any good research, one question always leads to another, and there’s more data and more research to be done.
That said, this analysis certainly takes a step toward busting the myth. We especially hope you enjoy the Epilogue filled with sideline observations from our interns themselves.
