Minding the Gap Featuring: Impact Icon Jane Rohde, Founder and Principal of JSR Associates

Published April 3, 2023

“A lot of people ask me, how do you think? Which is kind of a weird question, but I do get that more often than you think, um, and I go, because the process for me for connecting things is all the same. It doesn't matter what the issue is or the concern is. For me, it's how do you put the right people together to figure out what the better solution could be?” — Jane Rohde, Founder and Principal of JSR Associates

The idea that once you know something, you can’t unknow it has really resonated with me lately. And once you know something, what are you going to do about it. Whether that be the climate crisis, forced labor in the building materials supply chain, plastics pollution, you name it. For me, it starts with learning more - having more conversations, reading more, listening more. And I think that’s what I love most about talking to our Impact Icons. These conversations are a window into their lives, their brains, their work, their insights, and it's such a gift to us the listener because it allows us to learn more, question more, know more.

You came back! You came back for episode 2. I told myself I wouldn’t start like that, but who am I kidding? Episode 2 and I am joined by the absolutely delightful Jon Strassner of ASID and Break Some Dishes fame. Jon is the Chief Sustainability Officer at the American Society of Interior Designers and co-hosts the Break Some Dishes Podcast with the always lovely Verda Alexander. And, he is one of our 2022 Impact Icons. My conversation with Jon is like overhearing two friends having coffee, which I love. Jon shares his tips on how to do business with friends, why sustainability simply isn’t enough, and how we just have to get comfortable being uncomfortable, because like Jon says, if we’re not constantly evolving — what are we doing. Sit back, relax, and enjoy!
